Tree Agate is a dendritic chalcedony — a microcrystalline variety of quartz (silicon dioxide) — characterised by its opaque white body and the dark green dendritic inclusions of chlorite or other iron and manganese minerals that branch through the stone in patterns reminiscent of trees or ferns. Like Moss Agate, it is technically not a true agate (it lacks the characteristic banding) but is classified as a chalcedony. It forms in volcanic and metamorphic rocks and is found worldwide, with notable sources in India and Brazil.
