Moss Agate Tumbled
Naturally tumbled Moss Agate in two size options — 2–2.5cm and 2.5–3cm — displaying translucent to semi-opaque chalcedony with deep forest green, teal, and grey-blue tones, and the characteristic moss-like dendritic inclusions distributed throughout the stone. Each piece varies in the density and pattern of the inclusions and the balance of colour. A deeply organic-looking stone that is endlessly varied and a favourite among collectors.
Despite its name, Moss Agate contains no actual moss — the moss-like patterns are formed by dendritic inclusions of manganese or iron oxide minerals that branch through the translucent chalcedony matrix during formation. Moss Agate is technically not a true agate (it lacks the characteristic banding) but is classified as a chalcedony — a microcrystalline variety of quartz (silicon dioxide). It forms in weathered volcanic rocks and is found worldwide, with notable sources in India, the United States, and Brazil.
In crystal traditions, Moss Agate is widely associated with nature, growth, and new beginnings. Many people are drawn to it for its deeply organic appearance and its connection to the natural world. It is often said to support patience, persistence, and a sense of calm abundance, and is a popular choice for those who feel a strong connection to the earth and the outdoors.
