Blue Kyanite Tumble

Polished Blue Kyanite tumbled stones with a steel-blue to mid-blue colour and a high-gloss finish. Kyanite's characteristic parallel fibrous striations are clearly visible across the surface of each piece, giving these tumbles a distinctive lined texture unlike most other tumbled stones. The layered, blade-like internal structure of the mineral is preserved even in tumbled form. Sold per stone, approximately 2–2.5cm.

Kyanite is an aluminium silicate mineral that forms in elongated, blade-like crystals with a distinctive anisotropic hardness — it is harder across the blade than along it, which is unusual in mineralogy. Blue Kyanite gets its colour from iron and titanium impurities. It is found in metamorphic rocks and is one of the few minerals that does not require cleaving or special treatment to produce its natural blue colour.
