Smoky Quartz Tumbled 1cm - 2cm
Naturally tumbled Smoky Quartz in a small 1–2cm size, displaying a translucent grey to warm brown body with a high-gloss finish. Each piece varies in the depth of colour from nearly clear to quite dark, reflecting the natural variation in irradiation intensity within the crystal. A popular choice for crystal collections, display bowls, vase fillers, and craft or jewellery applications requiring smaller stones.
Smoky Quartz is a variety of macrocrystalline quartz (silicon dioxide) whose grey to brown colouring is caused by natural irradiation of aluminium impurities within the crystal lattice over geological time. The colour can range from pale grey to deep near-black depending on the intensity and duration of natural radiation exposure. It forms in granitic pegmatites, hydrothermal veins, and metamorphic rocks worldwide. Major sources include Brazil, Scotland, Switzerland, and Madagascar. Some commercially available Smoky Quartz is colour-enhanced through artificial irradiation of clear quartz — naturally coloured specimens are generally more translucent and evenly toned.
