Tiger Eye is a fibrous form of quartz, its silky lustre and chatoyance caused by the parallel intergrowth of quartz crystals that have pseudomorphically replaced crocidolite (blue asbestos) fibres. The golden colouration comes from iron oxide within the fibres. It is found primarily in South Africa, Australia, and India, and has been prized as a talisman stone across many cultures for centuries.
