Orthoceras Mortar and Pestle

This striking Mortar and Pestle is carved from Orthoceras-bearing stone — a dark, dense matrix embedded with the fossilised remains of Orthoceras, ancient straight-shelled cephalopods that lived approximately 400–500 million years ago during the Palaeozoic era. Each piece is entirely unique, with naturally occurring fossil impressions visible throughout the stone surface.

Orthoceras fossils are found primarily in Morocco and are among the most ancient marine fossils available today. Their elongated, chambered shells are immediately recognisable, and their striking contrast against the dark matrix makes them a perennial favourite for collectors and fossil enthusiasts.

In crystal and fossil traditions, Orthoceras is associated with ancient wisdom, transformation, and grounding energy — a connection to deep time said to encourage strength, focus, and an appreciation for life’s continual evolution.

A truly functional piece of fossil art — beautiful on a kitchen bench, altar, or display shelf.
